Few students (high school or college)
or adults who express interest or curiosity in a business career sufficiently understand:
  • how corporate America really operates
  • the nature of the jobs out there
  • what courses of study will best prepare you for them

Too often, the election of a career path in business is a default option after one rules out alternatives such as law, medicine or teaching, for whatever reasons.

Unfortunately, while the essentials of what lawyers, doctors or teachers do often are reasonably clear to many, the nature of the corporate world is not.

This book, written in clear and compelling language, gives students and workers page after page of valuable information, real-world anecdotes and hard-earned advice.

After reading this practical and entertaining book, you will make better informed decisions not only about
your career, but also about relating to co-workers, choosing courses, summer jobs, internships, job
searches, job interviews, and balancing life and work.

About the Author: Mark Kolakowski

The author is a 20-year veteran of corporate America, who admits stumbling into a business career exactly as a default option with little real understanding of what he was getting into. A graduate of Harvard College and the holder of an M.B.A. from the Wharton School, Mark has worked for AT&T, the accounting firm of Touche Ross (now part of Deloitte & Touche), Merrill Lynch, and JPMorganChase. Today, he writes for and manages the Finance Careers site of About.com (http://financecareers.about.com).

Mark's career has spanned a variety of fields and functions -- including economics, sales forecasting, project analysis, management consulting, finance and market research. The idea for this book owes much to his experience advising high school and college students on careers in business, partially in the context of interviewing applicants to Harvard College since the 1980s. He is also a dedicated volunteer for church and civic groups in the New York area.
